JOHN DAY – Spring prescribed burning is beginning on the Malheur National Forest, and will continue over the several weeks.

The burns, which depend on weather and vegetation conditions, will take place on all three ranger districts.

The Malheur staff is working with other agencies, including the BLM and Oregon Department of Forestry, to implement the burns.

Prescribed fires are part of the forest’s accelerated restoration program and fuels reduction projects.

Updates and maps of the burn units are available at the Malheur offices and online at www.fs.usda.gov/malheur, or watch for updates on Twitter, @MalheurNF.
