CANYON CITY – About 50 gathered in Canyon City’s Sproul Park for a free barbecue and inspiring stories.

The recovery committee of Grant County Safe Communities Coalition has hosted both the picnic and “Story Time” for a few years now; however, this is the first year they’ve combined the two events.

Three inspirational speakers shared their success stories of recovery from addictions, said Safe Communities recovery committee chairman Lindsey Madden.

“We discussed reducing stigma, understanding addiction as a disease and how treatment really works,” Madden said.

She noted the committee will plan another Story Time for winter.
