JOHN DAY – Ellis Tracy Unit 77 of the American Legion Auxiliary reports several items from the group’s Jan. 17 meeting.

The Auxiliary received a thank you letter from the Portland Veterans Hospital noting that Unit 77 contributed more than any other unit in Oregon in the latest holiday collection drive for veterans.

According to Ruth Harris, the group also provided Christmas gift bags for 12 veterans in local care facilities.

The Auxiliary is planning a “sweetheart observance” set for Monday, Feb. 16, at the American Legion Hall in John Day. More details will follow.

The Americanism essay program and Girls State activities were also discussed at the meeting.

Harris added that names of current, active duty personnel are needed for the Auxiliary’s outreach program. For more information, call Jessie Lewis at 541-575-1047 or Harris at 541-575-0076.
