Warm February follows cold January in John Day

Temperatures in John Day were warmer than normal during the month of February.

JOHN DAY — According to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service, temperatures at John Day averaged warmer than normal during the month of February.

The average temperature was 39.3 degrees, which was 3.2 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 52.7 degrees, which was 5.3 degrees above normal. The highest was 66 degrees on Feb. 10. Low temperatures averaged 25.9 degrees, which was 1.1 degrees above normal. The lowest was 1 degree, on Feb. 2.

There were 22 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.52 inches during February, which was 0.23 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on five days with the heaviest, 0.34 inches reported on Feb. 14.

The highest wind gust was 38 mph which occurred on Feb. 17.

The outlook for March from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day rise from 51 degrees at the start of March to 57 degrees at the end of March. Normal lows rise from 27 degrees to 31 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.27 inches.
