Strong thunderstorms rapidly developed

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement as strong thunderstorms rapidly developed in Grant County Monday afternoon.

At about 1:12 p.m., several strong thunderstorms developed with hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm was over John Day at 1:24 p.m. and moving northeast at 35 mph. Quarter-size hail and damage to vehicles is expected. John Day, Prairie City, Canyon City, Granite, Bates and Greenhorn will be impacted.

There have been reports of downed trees blocking roads. Exercise caution.
