Temperatures in John Day averaged near normal during the month of November, according to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service.

The average temperature was 39.1 degrees, which was 0.2 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 49.2 degrees, which was 0.5 degrees below normal. The highest was 64 degrees on Nov. 24. Low temperatures averaged 29.1 degrees, which was 1 degree above normal. The lowest was 14 degrees, on Nov. 7.

There were 19 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 1.23 inches during November, which was 0.12 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation was received on 12 days with the heaviest, 0.21 inches reported on Nov. 3.

Precipitation this year has reached 10.94 inches, which is 0.99 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at John Day has been 2.60 inches, which is 0.26 inches above normal.

Snowfall totaled 1 inch with at least 1 inch of snow reported on one day. The heaviest snowfall was 1 inch reported on Nov. 6.

The highest wind gust was 43 mph, which occurred on Nov. 16 and Nov. 26.

The outlook for December from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day fall from 44 degrees at the start of December to 41 degrees at the end of December. Normal lows fall from 24 degrees to 22 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.24 inches.
