Arrests and citations in the Blue Mountain Eagle are taken from the logs of law enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of arrest cases.


Grant County Circuit Court


Britt M. Wilcox, 23, John Day, was convicted on Jan. 10 of violating probation by contacting the victim in his case, not making payments on his $671 fine, not undergoing a substance abuse assessment and not completing 40 hours of community service. He was convicted of third-degree criminal mischief on June 22 and was convicted of violating probation on Sept. 11. His sentence was continued under the same conditions, including 18 months probation.


Grant County Sheriff


The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of Jan. 11: concealed handgun licenses, 3; average inmates, 13; bookings, 10; releases, 8; arrests, 2; citations, 1; fingerprints, 3; civil papers, 10; warrants processed, 0; asst./welfare check, 2; search and rescue, 0.

Jan. 8: Justin Shaw, 24, Eagle Point, was cited for improper display of validation sticker and refusal to provide a breath sample.


Oregon State Police


Jan. 7: Mitchel D. Long, 47, John Day, was arrested following a traffic stop on Highway 26 near Pine Creek Road and charged with misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine.

Jan. 10: Report of a noninjury crash at Highway 26 and Apple Road in John Day.

Jan. 10: Responded to an accident on Highway 26 West in John Day involving a pickup truck that entered the highway and was struck by a commercial truck. Mary Elliot, 53, John Day, was cited for failing to yield.

Jan. 12: Fnu Hamed, 25, Redmond, was arrested on Highway 26 east of Dayville and charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license.

John Day dispatch worked 123 calls during the week of Jan 8-14. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:

• John Day Police Department

Jan. 8: Advised of suspicious circumstances on West Main Street in John Day.

Jan. 9: Responded to a civil problem on West Main Street in John Day.

Jan. 9: Unable to locate a person who was reportedly banging on the door of the Grant County Health Department in John Day.

Jan. 9: Responded with sheriff’s office to the Canyon Heights subdivision above Canyon City for a report of a missing child. The callers found the child.

Jan. 10: Ethelene Yazzie, 49, Canyon City, was cited on South Canyon Boulevard for using a cellphone while driving.

Jan. 11: Jonathan Coley, 24, Mt. Vernon, was cited for criminal mischief at the Grant County Fairgrounds in John Day.

Jan. 12: Dispatched to the Riverside Mobile Home Park in John Day for a juvenile problem.

Jan. 12: Responded for a report of a suspicious vehicle at Southwest Sixth Avenue and South Canyon Boulevard in John Day. Charles C. Paulson, 40, John Day, was cited for illegal stopping and standing on the roadway.

Jan. 12: Warned a person on West Main Street in John Day suspected of harassment over the telephone.

Jan. 12: Christopher Olsen, 30, Walla Walla, Washington, was cited on Highway 26 near Dog Creek Road for driving with expired plates and no insurance.

Jan. 13: Aaron Roseberry, 31, Canyon City, was cited on Main Street in John Day for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Jan. 13: Responded to a senior home in John Day for a theft report. Darlene Morrison, 39, John Day, was issued a citation to appear.

Jan. 13: Dispatched with sheriff’s office for a report of shots fired on Northwest Seventh Avenue in John Day but unable to locate the source.

Jan. 13: Shauna Koopman, 36, Yakima, Washington, was cited on Highway 26 West in John Day for speeding 50 mph in a 25 zone.

Jan. 14: Responded with Oregon State Police for a vehicle that slid off Highway 26 West in John Day.

Jan. 14: Cited a minor in possession of alcohol on Bridge Street in John Day.

Jan. 9: Report of a violation of release agreement on West Franklin Avenue in Dayville.

Jan. 9: Assisted a motorist who ran out of fuel at Highway 26 and Moon Creek Road.

Jan. 10: Received a fraud report from Mt. Vernon.

Jan. 13: Responded to Main Street in Monument for an assault report that turned out to be a verbal altercation.

Jan. 13: Dispatched to Marysville Road in Canyon City for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Jan. 14: Report of a suspicious person at a rural property on Highway 26 west of John Day.

Jan. 14: Responded to Dixie Creek Road in Prairie City for a noninjury crash.

Jan. 9: Responded for a woman at a senior home in John Day.

Jan. 9: Dispatched to North Johnson Avenue in Prairie City for a 58-year-old woman complaining of back and leg pain.

Jan. 10: Responded with Long Creek fire and ambulance and AirLink helicopter to Ritter Road in Long Creek for a man with a broken bone.

Jan. 10: Dispatched to West Main Street in John Day for a woman who had fallen.

Jan. 11: Responded to Southwest Violet Street in Mt. Vernon for a 69-year-old woman.

Jan. 12: Dispatched to West Main Street in John Day for an elderly woman.

Jan. 12: Responded to Grant Union Junior-Senior High School for an injured basketball player.

Jan. 13: Dispatched to Ingle Street in Mt. Vernon for a woman.

Jan. 13: Responded to West Main Street in John Day for a woman with chest pain and nausea.

Jan. 14: Dispatched with John Day police and Prairie City ambulance to Overholt Avenue in Prairie City for a 14-year-old boy.

Jan. 12: Report of a fire or electrical problem on Marysville Road in Canyon City.

Jan. 9: Report of a rock slide on Highway 395 near Magone Lake Road.
