Grant County Circuit Court


Raymond J. Janczyk, 48, Springfield, pleaded guilty Feb. 8 to felony second-degree burglary at a downtown John Day location Feb. 2. He was sentenced to 24 months in prison and 12 months of post-prison supervision. He also was ordered to pay $3,278 in restitution to two individuals and one downtown business. Janczyk also pleaded guilty Feb. 21 to misdemeanor second-degree theft and misdemeanor unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, both on Feb. 1. He was sentenced to six months in the county jail, concurrent with the Feb. 21 sentence for burglary and a July 19 sentence for first-degree theft, first-degree forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Travis A. Palmer, 27, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty Feb. 22 to two counts of misdemeanor harassment on Jan. 1. He was sentenced to two days in jail, 48 months bench probation, 80 hours community service and $300 in fines. He was also ordered to complete an anger management program.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of Feb. 22:

Feb. 20: Reuben Nelson, 19, John Day, was cited for failure to carry proof of insurance and warned for careless driving.

• Refusal to stop and remain stopped: Chanty J. Goit, 45, Estacada, Feb. 2, fined $185.


Oregon State Police


Feb. 14: Two minors were cited for illegal marijuana use after their Subaru was pulled over for speeding on Highway 26 east of Mitchell. The driver, Isaiah F. J. Hussey, 18, Bend, was cited for DUII. The 17-year-old female passenger was cited for consuming marijuana in a motor vehicle traveling on a highway. Both were cited for being minors in possession of a marijuana item.

Feb. 14: A driver was ejected from a Dodge pickup after it lost traction on a snowy and icy roadway and rolled over on Highway 395 north of Bear Valley Road. A passing motorist transported the driver and a passenger to the hospital in Burns.

Feb. 16: Noah P. E. Fulfer, 23, was cited for DUII following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 26 near Dixie Summit. A breath sample indicated his blood alcohol content was 0.12 percent.

Feb. 16: A driver who was reaching for a soda in a GMC SUV slid off Highway 26 north of Battle Mountain Summit and ended up against a group of trees on a steep embankment. He wasn’t injured.

Feb. 18: Paul L. Roark, 21, was arrested and charged for DUII controlled substances after being pulled over on Highway 26 near Laycock Creek Road.

Feb. 23: James A. Ryan, 58, Canyon City, was cited at a John Day restaurant for failing to register as a sex offender.

Feb. 23: Daryl R. Guthrie, 39, John Day, was arrested at a grocery store parking lot in John Day and charged with DUII and failing to provide a breath sample. After serving a search warrant, his blood alcohol level was measured at 0.225 percent.

Feb. 23: Responded to a single-vehicle slide-off on Highway 26 near Austin Junction. The driver, Christopher L. Gibson, 39, John Day, was cited on a Crook County warrant for failure to appear.

Feb. 19: Dispatched to a noise complaint on Northeast Elm Street in John Day.

Feb. 20: William Choate, 86, John Day, was cited on West Main Street in John Day for misdemeanor theft.

Feb. 22: Nicholas P. Gibson, 26, Prairie City, was cited at Second Avenue and Bridge Street in John Day for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.

Feb. 23: Benjamin L. Keith, 37, Prairie City, was cited on a Grant County warrant at a restaurant in John Day.

Feb. 23: Dispatched with John Day ambulance and Grant County Sheriff’s Office to West Main Street in John Day for an unattended death.

Feb. 24: Cindy L. Bolman, 50, Dayville, was cited on West Main Street in John Day for speeding.

Feb. 21: Dispatched with Long Creek ambulance to East Main Street in Long Creek for a 43-year-old with difficulty breathing.

Feb. 22: Responded with Seneca ambulance to Avenue C in Seneca for an 86-year-old woman.

Feb. 22: Dispatched to Mountain Boulevard in Mt. Vernon for an 82-year-old woman.

Feb. 23: Responded to East Fifth Street in John Day for a transport.

Feb. 23: Dispatched with Prairie City ambulance to North Johnson Avenue in Prairie City for a 58-year-old woman with nausea.

Feb. 23: Transported a patient to a senior home in Prairie City.

Feb. 23: Responded to a vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 26 near Austin Junction.
