Arrests and citations in the Blue Mountain Eagle are taken from the logs of law enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of arrest cases.


Grant County Circuit Court


Nicky Joe Ballou, 41, Prairie City, was convicted Feb. 20 of misdemeanor third-degree theft from Oct. 1-29, 2017. He was sentenced to seven days in jail, 18 months bench probation, 32 hours community service and a $200 fine.

Justin L. Shaw, 24, Eagle Point, was convicted March 5 of misdemeanor driving under the influence of intoxicants for drugs and driving while license suspended or revoked Jan. 6. He was sentenced to 50 days in jail and 48 months of probation. He was ordered to pay a $2,755 fine and install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he drives. He was also convicted of DUII drug on Jan. 18. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 24 months of probation, and fined $1,355.

• Nicholas J. Weldon, 22, Monument, pleaded guilty to a fish and wildlife license violation. He was sentenced to 12 months probation and 15 hours of community service. He was ordered to forfeit antlers, head, cape and meat and pay $935 in fines and restitution.


Oregon State Police


Feb. 25: A red Pontiac Grand Am was pulled over on Highway 395 north of Mt. Vernon for improper exhaust and violation of minimum clearance requirements. The driver, Orion D. Bliss, 24, Canyon City, was arrested and charged with DUII drug and possession of methamphetamine. A passenger, Atana D. Pierre, 43, Pendleton, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. The charges against both have been dismissed, pending ongoing investigation.

Feb. 25: A black Lexus was pulled over on Highway 395 north of Mt. Vernon for unlawful use of lights. The driver, Elizabeth C. Pace, 40, John Day, was arrested and charged with DUII drug and possession of methamphetamine. The charges against Pace have been dismissed, pending ongoing investigation. A passenger, Delbert Ferraris, 30, Pendleton, was arrested on several felony warrants.

Feb. 26: A Ford pickup truck found on Highway 395 north of Long Creek had been stolen in Washington.

Feb. 28: Dispatched with Grant County Sheriff’s Office and John Day and Seneca ambulances to Highway 395 near Starr Ridge for a single-vehicle crash with injuries. The driver and three passengers were transported to Blue Mountain Hospital.

March 3: Following a traffic stop on Highway 26 near Pine Creek Road, Michael A. Salanti, 62, John Day, was arrested and charged with DUII drug and possession of methamphetamine.

March 3: After responding to a Ford pickup that struck a deer on Highway 26 near Pine Creek Road, the driver, John R. Combs, 34, Hood River, was cited for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.

Feb. 27: Responded to Southeast Dayton Street in John Day for a man with diabetic problems.
