Grant County Genealogical Society is hosting a spring genealogy seminar May 5 at the John Day Fire Hall with a no-host lunch at the Outpost Restaurant. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the first class will begin at 9 a.m. Topics for this seminar are genealogical pits and how to avoid them; immigration details; how to discover more information in death records; and how to bring your ancestor’s story to life.

Pam Vestal from West Linn will present the four classes of the seminar. Vestal is a professional genealogist and speaker and the owner of Generations Genealogy LLC, and she has published articles in the Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly.

Participants will learn how to trace ancestors from place to place; details death records can offer; how to use context to tell a story beyond names, dates and places; and how to avoid pitfalls that cause errors.

Early registration costs $35. Registration at the door costs $40. For more information or to register, call 541-932-4718 or 541-575-1431.
