Arrests and citations in the Blue Mountain Eagle are taken from the logs of law enforcement agencies. Every effort is made to report the court disposition of arrest cases.


Grant County Circuit Court


Three misdemeanor charges against Nicholas A. Fitowski, 25, John Day, were dismissed after the district attorney’s office stated they had lost contact with the named victim. Fitowski had been charged with attempted fourth-degree felony assault constituting domestic violence, menacing constituting domestic violence and harassment, all committed on April 8.

Travis Farr, 25, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty June 6 to attempting to commit a class C/unclassified felony-coercion and menacing constituting domestic violence, both misdemeanors committed on April 10. He was sentenced to 15 days in jail, 36 months probation, 50 hours community service and $300 in fines and fees. Two charges of attempting to commit a class A felony and one charge of second-degree disorderly conduct were dismissed.

Two misdemeanor charges against Israel Sanchez, 39, Pasco, Washington, were dismissed in the best interests of justice. Sanchez had been charged with two counts of second-degree disorderly conduct on May 24 after he allegedly was seen yelling, gesticulating at and making lewd hand gestures toward drivers and passersby on a public highway.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of June 6:

June 4: David Darling, 43, Canyon City, was cited for driving with a suspended license and no insurance and warned about speeding.

June 4: John Dickerson, 66, Diamond Springs, California, was cited for speeding, 55/45 zone.

June 6: Josiah Martin, 21, Mt. Vernon, was cited for violation of basic rule, 75/55 zone.

June 6: Raoul J. Delvoye, 66, Limbourg, Belgium, was cited for violation of basic rule, 95/55 zone, careless driving and failing to yield to emergency vehicles.


Oregon State Police


May 28: Responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Highway 395 near Magone Lake Road. A trailer became disconnected from a northbound pickup truck while rounding a curve in the highway.

May 31: Responded to Highlan Terrace in Mt. Vernon. Melinda J. Moss, 39, John Day, was arrested and charged with a warrant for contempt of court.

June 1: Detected the odor of alcohol following a traffic stop on Highway 26 in Mt. Vernon. The passenger, Robert L. Tooke, 52, was arrested for violating a no-intoxicant clause in his probation conditions.

June 2: Responded to Highway 402 near Lone Pine Campground for a single motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The 57-year-old woman from Burns was transported to Blue Mountain Hospital.

Exceeding speed limit: Haley L. Olson, 24, Mt. Vernon, March 20, 82/65 zone, fined $225; Molly A. Weber, 38, Damascus, April 20, 76/65 zone, fined $265; Rudy E. Soliz, 48, Madras, May 27, 78/65 zone, fined $225.

Violation of basic rule: Cheryl A. Neault, 59, Prairie City, May 14, 75/55 zone, fined $125.

Driving uninsured: Chance R. Currey, 28, Mt. Vernon, Jan. 3, fined $235; Ryan G. Chapman, 44, John Day, April 20, fined $1,000.

Driving while suspended: Jeramy F. Gibson, 31, John Day, May 11, fined $440; Ryan G. Chapman, 44, John Day, April 20, fined $2,000.

No rearview mirror: Ryan G. Chapman, 44, John Day, April 20, fined $250.

Smoking in a motor vehicle while a child was present: Courtney R. Johnston, 27, Eagle Point, Idaho, March 18, fined $115.

Failure to carry proof of compliance with financial responsibility requirements: Courtney R. Johnston, 27, Eagle Point, Idaho, March 18, fined $265.

Failure to notify state of change of name or address: Brittany C. Zirkel, 31, John Day, March 20, fined $115; Richard A. Acosta, 51, Burns, May 27, fined $115.

No operator’s license: Michael F. Harer, 69, Dale, May 11, fined $265.

Failure to install ignition interlock: Jacob M. DeRosier, 31, John Day, May 23, fined $440.

Failure to stay within lane: Kathleen Hoffman, 59, Dayville, May 14, fined $225.

Operation of unsafe vehicle: Michael A. Salanti: 61, Mt. Vernon, March 3, fined $240.

June 5: Following a traffic stop on South Canyon Boulevard in John Day, Elijah Humbird, 18, Canyon City, was cited for having studded tires on his vehicle.

June 4: Responded to the Prairie Wood Products site in Prairie City for a suspicious vehicle.

June 6: Made contact with a subject with mental issues at the police station.

June 6: Responded to West Main Street in John Day for an intoxicated person.

June 7: Following a traffic stop on Highway 26 near Pine Creek Road, Kevin Kimberling, 45, Prairie City, was cited for speeding, 91/65 zone, and careless driving.

June 7: Following a traffic stop on Highway 26 near Bear Creek Ranch, Austin J. Catron, 16, Mt. Vernon, was cited for speeding, 78/65 zone.

June 7: Received a report of a trespasser on Hillcrest Drive in John Day.

June 8: Received a report of a possible restraining order violation in John Day.
