Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative is launching a new incentive for buying local. When members purchase qualifying appliances or equipment, such as an Energy Star electric clothes washer or dryer, electric heating or air conditioning equipment or an electric hot water heater, from a local business, members can receive an additional rebate from the cooperative, according to a press release.

“We are really excited to offer this for our member-owners to keep their purchases within our service territory from Burns to Elgin and all points in between served by OTEC,” said Susie Snyder, OTEC supervisor of energy programs.

The idea behind the buy local campaign is to encourage members to shop within the OTEC territory.

“OTEC wants to help our members keep their purchases local. This is a win for our members and a win for the local economy,” Snyder said.

The key to the program, however, is that the appliances or equipment available under the buy local program must first be eligible for an OTEC incentive, such as being an Energy Star electric appliance or water heater.

Snyder said that in addition to the new buy local campaign, the cooperative has also updated rebates available for appliances and water heaters.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to help our members,” she said.

OTEC has long offered rebates and incentives for things such as commercial lighting, low elevation sprinklers, cattle fountains, windows, doors, air conditioners and variable frequency drives. Snyder said members are highly encouraged to contact their local OTEC office for more information or to see if a possible upgrade might have a rebate or incentive available.

Rebates are subject to funding availability.

“We want our energy services department to be your one-stop resource and expert when it comes to energy efficiency measures and rebates,” she said. “If you’re considering energy efficiency upgrades in your home or business, call us right away so we can help you maximize our rebate programs.”

OTEC is also planning an upcoming class for members on easy ways to gain energy efficiencies in your home this August.
