A Red Flag Warning has been issued for southern Grant County and northern Harney County from 4-11 p.m. Tuesday, July 24.

Scattered thunderstorms will develop in southeast Oregon during the afternoon and evening, and a few will travel north and bring isolated thunderstorms south of John Day, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms have potential to bring occasional cloud-to-ground lightning strikes capable of starting fires. Most of the lightning is expected during the evening hours.

An average of 10-15 strikes per 15 minutes are expected with the isolated thunderstorms.

Less than one-tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
