Grant County Circuit Court


Jeremiah J. Alsop, 36, Prairie City, pleaded guilty Aug. 1 to being a felon in possession of a firearm committed on June 25. He was sentenced to 11 months in prison, two years post-prison supervision and a $200 fine. A misdemeanor charge of second-degree theft and a citation for driving with a suspended license were dismissed.

A charge of first degree criminal trespass against Kevin D. Rodriguez, 18, Nyssa, was dismissed following a motion by the district attorney’s office to dismiss in the best interests of justice.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of Aug. 1:

July 30: Danny Kidd, 23, John Day, was cited for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.


Oregon State Police


July 30: Responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 19 in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Unsecured half-ton straw bales slid off a trailer as it rounded a curve and struck another vehicle.


Justice Court


Violation of speed limit: Dillon G. Winters, 21, John Day, May 22, 43/25 zone, fined $165.

Exceeding speed limit: Gunnar J. Peterson, 27, Bend, June 11, 46/35 zone, fined $165.

Violation of basic rule: Sun Soon Paik, 76, Buena Park, California, July 6, 78/55 zone, fined $265; Casey L. Schultz, 39, Long Creek, July 9, 77/55 zone, fined $225.

Driving uninsured: Cejay M. Villa-Portelo, 22, Challis, Idaho, May 29, fined $265; Dillon G. Winters, 21, John Day, May 22, fined $265.

Violation of overall maximum length: Komal Singh, 29, Elk Grove, California, July 17, fined $115.

Stephanie A. Burrows, 44, transient, was convicted of second-degree criminal trespass and first-degree disorderly conduct. She was sentenced to $905 in fines and fees.
