Grant County Circuit Court


A charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants against Clayton L. Coffer, 27, Prineville, committed on July 5, 2017, was dismissed without prejudice Aug. 7. The district attorney’s office filed a motion to dismiss, citing the best interests of justice.

Norman G. Reed, 75, John Day, was found guilty Aug. 6 of failing to register as a sex offender after changing residence committed on March 22. The defendant had since registered and was found not to pose a risk of harm, and the case was discharged.

Aug. 6: Daniel Wilhelm, 57, Sanibel, Florida, was cited for speeding, 40/25 zone.

Aug. 5: Kim Conklin, 58, Bend, was cited for violating the basic rule, 75/55 zone.


Oregon State Police


Aug. 5: Responded to Highway 395 south of the Grant County line for a single-vehicle rollover crash with minor injuries. The 17-year-old male was cited for careless driving.

Aug. 6: Received a complaint from a store in John Day about a 50-year-old man who was denied the purchase of a firearm.

Aug. 7: Responded to Highway 395 south of Canyon City for a vehicle that swerved to avoid two deer and ended up at the bottom of a steep embankment. The driver refused medical attention.

Aug. 9: Following a report of a man trying to break into a home on West Sixth Street in Prairie City, a suspect was located on North McHaley Avenue dressed in purple doctor’s scrubs. A search uncovered a methamphetamine pipe. Allan N. MacMillan, 58, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and possession of methamphetamine.

Aug. 9: Responded to a single-vehicle crash with no injuries on Highway 7. The driver of the southbound vehicle reportedly fell asleep.

Brian K. Jordan, 49, was convicted of keeping a dog as a public nuisance. He was fined $265.

Nola M. Pierson, 55, John Day, pleaded guilty to third-degree theft. She was sentenced to 72 hours in jail, 18 months probation, 20 hours of community service and $634 in fines, fees and restitution.
