Grant County Circuit Court


Dennis Asher, 51, Canyon City, was convicted July 31 of two felony charges of failing to register as a sex offender committed on April 12 and May 9. He was sentenced to four months in jail and two years post-prison supervision.

Katie Marie Watt, 32, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty July 26 to delivery of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, committed on Nov. 16, 2016. She was sentenced to 25 days in jail, 36 months of probation and a $400 fine. Charges of conspiracy to commit a Class B felony, manufacture of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of a minor were dismissed. Watt was also convicted Aug. 17 of misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine committed on Aug. 9, 2016. She was sentenced to 18 months probation, 80 hours of community service and a $250 fine.

Brandon H. Scott, 44, Forest Grove, pleaded guilty Aug. 17 to misdemeanor harassment committed on July 3. He was sentenced to 18 days in jail, 18 months probation and $300 in fines and fees. Two charges of third-degree sexual abuse and one charge of harassment were dismissed.

Charges against Brian L. Gregg, 25, John Day, of third-degree criminal mischief, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance committed on June 24 were dismissed Aug. 17. He pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants and entered a diversion agreement.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of Aug. 15:

Aug. 15: Gregg Starr, 69, Mt. Vernon, was cited for careless driving.


Oregon State Police


Aug. 11: A rancher reported multiple incidents of trespassing by a hunter who shot a buck antelope and removed it from the rancher’s property. Another hunter who witnessed the incident provided the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle and the first name of the suspect.

Aug. 12: A rancher reported multiple incidents of trespassing by two hunters looking for antelope. Three to five shots were heard. A hunter with permission to be on the property found no signs of an antelope that had been hit or killed.

Aug. 17: Ricky B. Gordon, 55, Canyon City, was arrested at the fairgrounds and charged with violating probation.

Aug. 18: Following a traffic stop on West Main Street in John Day, Kristopher D. McGarrity, 41, Reno, Nevada, was cited for driving with no license or insurance.

Aug. 18: Following a traffic stop on Main Street in John Day, Liborio Armenta-Lopez, 38, Kimberly, was cited for driving with no license or insurance.

Aug. 18: Following a traffic stop on Southwest First Street, Haley Miller, 20, John Day, was cited for driving without a license.
