The fire helicopter that made a precautionary landing yesterday is returning to La Grande.

On Thursday evening a helicopter returning to the John Day Airbase made a precautionary landing after a fuel light came on, according to a Forest Service press release. The pilot and crew onboard were not injured, and the helicopter was undamaged.

The helicopter was returning from the Harrison Fire, near Olive Lake, when the pilot noted a fuel light had illuminated. As a safety measure, the pilot landed the helicopter in a field located between John Day and Prairie City. The landowner was notified of the situation.

The helicopter returned to the John Day Airbase Friday morning before returning to La Grande.
