Grant County Circuit Court


Caitlin E. Brooks, 34, John Day, pleaded guilty Sept. 13 to two counts of misdemeanor third-degree theft committed on May 13. She was sentenced to 72 hours in jail, 20 hours of community service, 18 month probation and $200 in fines and fees. One felony count of first-degree burglary was diverted and one felony count of first-degree burglary was dismissed.

Sept. 10: Daniel Parslow, 56, Portland, was cited for speeding, 58/25 zone.

Sept. 10: Scott Raaum, 67, Walnut Creek, California, was cited for speeding, 87/65 zone.

Justice Court

• Violation of speed limit: Kayla D. Lambeth, 24, John Day, July 22, 43/25 zone, fined $140; Keith L. Eggener, 58, Eugene, June 29, 51/35 zone, fined $140.

• Exceeding speed limit: Harry S. Bower, 55, Oregon City, Aug. 18, 78/55 zone, fined $225; Eric F. Cornett, 49, Bend, July 28, 53/35 zone, fined $140.

• Passing in a no-passing zone: Robert B. McSeveney, 66, Monitor, Washington, May 27, fined $240.

• Use of a cell phone while driving: Kayla D. Lambeth, 24, John Day, July 28, fined $225.


Oregon State Police


Sept. 12: Following a traffic stop on Highway 26 near Prairie City, the driver said he was on his way to a hunting camp. A records check showed that the driver had a protection order restricting him from possessing firearms. The driver said he had a .22-caliber rifle in the truck. Timothy McConkey, 59, Salem, was arrested and charged with contempt of court.

Sept. 13: Received a report of a vehicle breaking through a gate at a ranch near Prairie City after someone tried to shoot the lock open. A license plate reportedly fell off the vehicle. The rancher wants to pursue criminal trespass charges.

Sept. 10: Responded with state police to an apartment complex in east John Day for a hit and run. Jared J. Baker, 23, John Day, was arrested and charged with hit and run, criminal trespass and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Sept. 12: Received a report of identity theft at a church in John Day.

Sept. 12: Received a call about teenagers riding scooters across West Main Street in John Day.

Sept. 14: Advised of a noninjury crash on Nugget Lane in Canyon City.

Sept. 14: Received a report of theft of service at a convenience store in Prairie City.

Sept. 14: Investigated an accident at the Prairie City Post Office. A vehicle accidentally ran into the south wall, damaging the building and impacting postal boxes for about 90 customers, according to Postmaster Tori Iske. There were no injuries and no citations. Contractors got to work right away, and most of the repairs were expected to be completed by Sept. 18-19, Iske said.
