Grant County Circuit Court


Michael A. Salanti, 62, Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty Sept. 20 to misdemeanor driving under the influence of intoxicants committed on March 3. He was sentenced to 20 days in jail, 24 months probation, 80 hours of community service and $1,755 in fines and fees. His license was suspended for one year, and he was ordered to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he drives.

A misdemeanor charge against Lloyd G. Rodgers, 58, Nampa, Idaho, of driving under the influence of intoxicants allegedly committed Aug. 8, 2017, was dismissed Sept. 25 on District Attorney Jim Carpenter’s motion that it was in the best interests of justice.

A felony charge against Wendy T. Cates, 53, Mt. Vernon, of tampering with a witness committed Nov. 27, 2017, was dismissed Sept. 25 on District Attorney Jim Carpenter’s motion that it was in the best interests of justice.

Oregon State Police


Sept. 23: Responded to a motor vehicle crash without injuries on Highway 26 west of John Day. An eastbound pickup struck a deer as it passed a westbound SUV that failed to dim its lights.

Sept. 24: Received reports that the payment boxes at Clyde Holliday, Magone Lake and Unity Reservoir campgrounds had been broken into and robbed. About $415 in cash and credit card receipts reportedly were stolen from Clyde Holliday State Park.

Sept. 24: A rancher in the Fox area reported finding an elk carcass on his property that he believed was killed by trespassing hunters. The Nevada Department of Wildlife was assisting in the investigation.

Sept. 28: Responded to Highway 395 north of Mt. Vernon for a crash with injuries. A southbound tractor turned left and stopped at an access gate when a northbound pickup truck struck the tractor and flipped it on its side, trapping the tractor driver inside until an ambulance arrived. Both drivers were transported to the hospital.
