Public help sought in Wheeler County elk poaching case

The elk was discovered on Oct. 1 and reported to OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers.

The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s help to identify the person responsible for shooting and wasting a 4x5 bull elk in the Ochoco Unit southeast of Mitchell in Wheeler County. The elk was located off of USFS Road 12 near USFS Road 42.

The elk was discovered on Oct. 1 and reported to OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers. It was determined the elk had been killed 48 hours before discovery. The animal had been shot, gutted and then left to waste. No meat was taken.
