The Grant Union girls track team extended its lead over the 2A competition after the long jump event at the Track and Field State Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene Thursday.

Grant Union’s Trinity Hutchison placed second in long jump with a jump of 16-06.25, and teammate Sydney Brockway placed third with a jump of 16-03.00. Coach Sonna Smith said both were personal records.

Kyndal Martin of Monroe placed first with a jump of 17-00.50.

Hutchison earned eight points for the team in the event, and Brockway earned six. With the 18 points earned in the javelin event by Kaylee Wright and Jozie Rude, Grant Union’s team total was 32 points with three events scored.

With three events scored, Monroe and Kennedy were tied for second place with 13 points, followed by Bandon and Weston-McEwen with 10.

Hutchison and Brockway will also compete in triple jump Friday and the 4x100-meter relay.
