Ronald Dee Childress, 81, of John Day passed away June 8 at The Hospice House in Bend. He was born June 11, 1935, in Kansas, Illinois, to Veahel and Wavie Childress. The family moved to Oregon in 1941. Childress worked for his dad at the family furniture store in his teens and later went to Maytag repair school.
Childress married Janice Smeby Aug. 13, 1956, in Stevenson, Washington.
In 1960, they moved to John Day, where he worked for Sims Electric as an electrician/repairman for many years, later owning his own business, Dee’s Appliance Repair, then Red’s Electric.
He loved plowing fields on his John Deere tractor. He always had to stay busy working or fixing something.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice; their five daughters, Vicki Drewett (Duane) of Mt. Vernon; Sherri Lundbom (Ron) of John Day; Dee Anna Childress (Mark Kraley) of Kellogg, Idaho; Sandy Williams (John) of Tumalo; Janell Lippert (Mark Crissman) of Fox; sister, Willina Kelly of Gresham; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held at a later date.
