Shoppers flocked to two bazaars on Saturday in Mt. Vernon, checking out handcrafted items and goodies at the Mt. Vernon Grange and the Mt. Vernon Community Center.

Shannon Winegar, who was overseeing the event at the Grange, said the proceeds from the table rentals and food served benefit several of their groups’ causes, including the Grant County Fair royalty, Mt. Vernon firefighters fundraiser, a Christmas dinner, 4-H kids and more.

“It’s a good time for people to get together,” Winegar said. “We’re trying to keep it homemade and support our local crafts people.”

She said 24 vendors signed up, offering crocheted hats, jewelry, holiday centerpieces, homemade Christmas stockings and more.

Bonnie Cearns organized the bazaar at the community center to support the firefighters’ fundraiser for Christmas food baskets they give to the elderly each year.

Besides the array of handcrafted wares filling the center, which included “quillows,” homemade gourmet treats, and holiday decor, there were raffle tickets and a fireman’s boot for donations.
