Democrat Tobias Read has the lead in a three-way race for State Treasurer. The first results, released at 8 p.m., show Read with 45 percent of the vote and Republican Jeff Gudman with 41 percent of the vote. Independent candidate Chris Telfer had 8 percent.
Read, a state representative since 2007, ran on platform of making state investment decision more transparent and bringing some of the money-management in-house. Gudman, a Lake Oswego City Councilor, split with Read on how to manage state forests, saying he’d like to see more timber come from the Elliot State Forest. Telfer, a former Republican state lawmaker from Bend, said her experiences as a CPA and state legislator would allow her to oversee the state’s finances and communicate effectively with the Legislature.
