Fire update on Haystack, Troop, Steet fires

Fire crews report they are making progress on the Haystack Complex fires near Spray, Monument and Dayville.

The Forest Service’s John Day Type 3 Incident Management Team is transferring the operations to a Type II Oregon Department of Forestry team today.

The Haystack fire was estimated at 918 acres Wednesday, burning some three miles northeast of Spray.

The Steet Fire, at 50 acres.

The Troop Fire, which burned north of Dayville, was declared contained Wednesday afternoon at 250 acres.

There also are two fires south of Dayville being managed by a Central Oregon fire team.

In other fire news, the Kitten Complex fires between Brogan Hill and Juntura have torched 22,700 acres. Officials project containment on Aug. 6.

West of Condon, a wind-driven grass fire west has grown to 12,000 acres on private and Bureau of Land Management lands.
