DAYVILLE – The South Fork Road south of Dayville is closed to the public as fire crews continue efforts to fight the wildfire in the Murderers Creek Ranch area.

The road is open only to fire-related traffic, said Sheriff Glenn Palmer, and officials are asking people to steer clear of the area.

He said Undersheriff Todd McKinley also is working to evacuate any campers or recreationists who might be in the Deer Creek area.

The fire, which broke out after a lightning storm Thursday evening, was estimated at some 4,000 acres at mid-day.
