JOHN DAY – Prairie City Ranger District crews will continue prescribed burning in the Knox Unit over the weekend, as conditions allow.

The plan is to burn up to 100 acres in the unit. The exact timing will depend on the weather.

The Forest Service said the burning may have short-term impacts on air quality, but the plan is to burn during weather conditions that minimize impacts for local communities.

All three districts of the Malheur National Forest plan to continue prescribed burning this spring as part of the hazardous fuels reduction program, which aims to reduce the risk of catastrophic fires and restore overall health of the forest lands.
