A candidate for sheriff of Jackson County is the subject of an Oregon Department of Justice investigation.

The Mail Tribune reports that the state DOJ will launch an investigation against corrections officer Bob Sergi. Sergi is trying to unseat Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters.

The sheriff candidate told the newspaper he couldn't discuss the investigation. But he said it revolved around alleged elections law violations.

The Sheriff's Department put Sergi on administrative leave pending the investigation.
