John Day Mayor Ron Lundbom presents the Golden Stork Award to 911 dispatcher Savannah Lovell for providing assistance in the emergency delivery of a baby girl on Jan. 21. Dispatch Manager Valerie Maynard said all dispatchers at the John Day center are certified for emergency medical dispatch, meaning they can provide pre-arrival instructions for medical calls. An ambulance was dispatched right away on Jan. 21 after a person with the pregnant woman called 911, and Lovell provided competent instructions over the phone while the ambulance was in transit. “She acts like she's been here for 20 years,” Maynard said.
