Fly over to the Fly-In

An eager crowd watches planes taxi during the 2013 Fly-In. This year's event is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, at Grant County Regional Airport in John Day.

JOHN DAY – If you like aircraft, rappellers, candy or even hot-off-the-griddle breakfast, the Grant County Fly-In is the place to be this weekend.

This year’s Fly-In will be from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Grant County Regional Airport in John Day.

All are welcome to the free annual event. Local pilots will offer free airplane rides for school-age children through 12th grade. There also will be rappel demonstrations by Malheur National Forest rappel crews, and a presentation of the American Flag by a local ultralight pilot, and a candy drop – always a popular highlight for the kids.

Breakfast will be served through the morning, for a small fee, by Cliff House Catering.

For more information, call the airport at 541-575-1151.
