KIMBERLY – To mark the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument 40th anniversary this year, the Monument and Discover Your Northwest have teamed up to sponsor an art and photography contest.

The contest, which kicked off Jan. 5, is open to the public.

Entrants are asked to capture the beauty and significance of the Fossil Beds area. They may enter up to three images total, one each in the categories photography, painting/drawing and other. Entrants should not submit original work, but scans or photographs of sufficient quality to be printed on 8-1/2 x 11-inch paper for judging.

Entries will be accepted through May 1, and may be submitted via email at joda_interpretation@nps.gov, or on a CD-ROM by snail mail to John Day Fossil Beds NM, ATTN: Anniversary Art Contest, 32651 Highway 19, Kimberly, OR 97848.

Judging will take place in early May, and winners will be notified by phone. Grand prize is $500; honorable mentions in each category will receive $100.
