Three Grant Union students will travel to Europe next summer with Voyagers International as Oregon Ambassadors of Music.

Senior Carle Wright (bass clarinet), junior Samantha Floyd (trombone) and sophomore Jacob Smith (oboe) will join other musicians from Oregon for the trip.

The group will perform in a variety of public concerts with visits to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Germany.

Each student has been working to raise $6,245 for the trip, plus additional funds for other expenses, such as food.

Wright is selling Figaro’s pizza as a fundraiser through Jan. 23. The bake-at-home pizzas will be available on Jan. 30. The varieties include cheese, pepperoni, Hawaiian, Mamas (supreme) and Papas (meat-lovers). To place an order, contact Wright at 541-792-1108.

Floyd has sold baked goods and crafts, including Christmas items at the Blue Mountain Hospital Auxiliary Bazaar, and Smith sold bread and other goodies at last summer’s John Day Farmers Market.

Wright said they all will be holding more fundraisers in the future to reach their goals.

“I’m excited to perform with other musicians from Oregon and experience different cultures and music abroad,” she said.
