Young and old alike wore their red, white and blue best to celebrate “Stars and Stripes for Dayville!” which was the theme for this year’s celebration.
“It was a great day to be in our little town,” said organizer and city recorder Ruthie Moore.
She said, besides the parade, people also enjoyed a dinner and dance, a swap meet, duck race and horseshoe tournament.
The parade began with Sydney Thompson singing the national anthem while Rowdy Israel carried the flag on horseback.
Israel is running for the title of Junior Miss Rodeo Oregon.
Parade grand marshal Mary MacArthur also rode on horseback alongside her daughter Suzan Mascall, and they were followed by the Grant County Fair Court Queen Trinity Hutchison of John Day and Princess Courtney Nichols of Dayville.
Best of Parade honors went to a humorous duo, Patti LeBlanc dressed as a town sheriff and her husband, Ron, who walked in a cardboard jail, claiming to be falsely framed.
Moore thanked those who lent a helping hand during the event.
“It was a day where memories were made,” Moore said.
