JOHN DAY - The Second Annual Strawberry Mountain Wine, Brew and Art Festival was held Saturday, June 25, at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
Let's say the event, like fine wine, got better with age.
The "Triple Belgium" beer from Terminal Gravity that Kimberly Wall served was the right temperature and taste; the special cabernet from the boys at Gilstrap winery was perfectly dry; and the food from Shcarol's was wonderful.
"The cheesecake dessert was the best I've ever had," Jill Mallory said.
The festival was sponsored by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, US Bank and the Old West Federal Credit Union.
Money was donated by Century 21 Franklin Realty and John Day Auto Parts, while John Day Office Supply donated miscellaneous office supplies.
Wine glasses were provided by Shcarol's Catering of Fox.
Donations for the silent auction were provided by Canyon Creek Candle Company, Les Schwab, Sue Drake, Foxy Hair Design and different wineries donated the wines.
The board that organized the festival was made up of seven members. Sherry Pasko and Ira Franklin were the chairpersons, while the rest of the board was made up of Shelley Bezona, Marissa Allen, Jorge Ribeiro, Linda Cook and Arlene McGetrick.
Gilstrap Brothers Winery of Cove was the only winery that participated.
Other participants included Gardner Enterprises of John Day, Terminal Gravity Brewery of Enterprise, the Blue Mountain Eagle, John Day Office Supply, Les Schwab, Century 21 - Franklin Realty and Canyon Creek Candle Compan, and People Mover, all of John Day. tMK Party Supplies of Mt. Vernon supplied some of the decorations, and KJDY Radio of John Day provided the music.
Arts and crafts were provided by Carrie Bellinger, Woody Woodard and Lou Patzer, all of John Day. Yolanda Rommell of Canyon City, the Art Gallery of Prairie City, Iva's Plant House of Praire City and Denise Steffenhagen of Prineville also provided arts and Crafts.
