GRANT COUNTY - Oregon Trail Electric Company seeks student applicants for a youth tour to Washington, D.C., next summer.

The one-week, all-expenses-paid trip for the 2012 Rural Electric Youth Tour will be June 14-22.

Applications will be available starting Thursday, Dec. 1. The deadline is Jan. 21, 2012.

About 1,500 high schoolers from across the United States will attend the tour, learning about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government. They will also visit historic sights of the nation's capital and spend time with their congressional delegations on Capitol Hill.

Youth tour winners will create podcasts and digital photo projects while learning about issues in renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change legislation.

Applicants must be high school juniors living in a home served by OTEC.

For information on the youth tour, visit www.youthtour.coop. To download an application, go to www.otecc.com. Applications are also available through high school guidance counselors or at OTEC district offices, after Dec. 1.
