The Grant County Sheriff's Office was notified of a fatal ATV accident during the evening hours of May 31.

Deputy Rod Spannis of the Harney County Sheriff's Office investigated the accident which was located on Forest Road 14 about three miles north of Hoffman Spring on the Prairie Ranger District of the Malheur National Forest.

According to Deputy Spannis, Robert Lee Beaubien, 96, of Redmond, was northbound on FR 14 when he made an abrupt turn leaving the gravel road at about 3 mph. Beaubien hit a tree with the Polaris four-wheeler he was operating. The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The passenger, 91-year-old Bonnie Lee Beaubien was seriously injured in the accident as well.

Both victims were transported by private vehicle to a ranch in the Van-Drewsey area. Bonnie Beaubien was transferred from the Van-Drewsey area to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend by Air Life.
