JOHN DAY - A benefit dinner-auction will be held this month to help area ranchers deal with the cost of litigation.
The Five Rivers Grazing Defense Benefit is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Trowbridge Pavilion at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
The prime rib dinner costs $20, featuring beef donated by Strawberry Mountain Natural Beef and catering by Shcarol's. Diners can pay at the door for their meals.
The auction will offer more than three dozen hunting opportunities, including tags for deer and elk on private land that usually is closed to hunting. Ranches across the region also are offering opportunities to hunt for squirrels, coyotes, ducks, turkeys and other game birds.
Other items up for bid will include jewelry, tools, quilts, hay, horse-shoeing, beef, leatherworks, Western decor, a weekend cabin stay, baked goods, and more.
Jack Southworth will be the auctioneer.
Bidders can participate in the auction in person or by telephone.
