PRINEVILLE - The Prineville District of the Bureau of Land Management proposes to treat vegetation on Little Canyon Mountain, near Canyon City, and has prepared an environmental assessment, which is now available for review and comment through May 27.

The EA addresses the following concerns: reduction of hazardous fuels; improve fire suppression opportunities and safety consideration; reduce the risk from catastrophic wildfire to the mountain and the adjacent urban area; and to improve the health of the forest. The project area encompasses approximately 2,500 acres of BLM-managed lands.

Comments will be available for public review at the BLM office in Prineville. Names and addresses of individual respondents will be published unless confidentiality is requested. All submissions from organizations or businesses and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses will be made available for public inspection in their entirety.

To request a copy of the plan, write to Environmental Coordinator, BLM, 3050 N.E. Third St., Prineville, OR 97754 or call (541) 416-6874.

The Little Canyon Mountain fuel reduction project was the focus of an April 29 meeting at the John Day Senior Center.
