Bowling honored during blood drive

JOHN DAY - Joan Bowling of John Day was honored at the June 8 blood drive held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike Mawdsey, donor services manager, presented her with the Maureen S. Long Award. The award is presented by the Pacific Northwest Regional Blood Services for nominated volunteers who show extraordinary and sustained commitment and leadership. Central Oregon Blood Center nominated Joan for the award. Joan has been the chairman of the John Day community blood drive since August 1998 and last year as co-chairman.

Danielle Warren, terrority representative from Bend, reported that 134 units of blood were collected from the two-day blood drive.
