JOHN DAY - Ellis Tracy Post 77 of the American Legion hosted a Boys State breakfast on May 24 in preparation for the conference to be held June 15-21 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Ty Rawlins, Dustin Heideman and Peter Diezel have been chosen to participate in this year's program. Sponsors include Chester's Thriftway, Gardner Enterprises, Lions Club, Elks Lodge 1824, and the John Day Kiwanis.

The Boys State program gives the boys a close-up view to see how the legislature works and the state is run. During the hands-on mock government exercise, the Boys State citizens actually get to run for different offices or participate in a party to get an official elected or pass a law.

Art Pereira is the Boys State chairman and American Legion Commander Jack Sanders participated in the recent preparation meeting.
