JOHN DAY - Fire crews for the Blue Mountain Ranger District will conduct prescribed burning operations during?October in the Antelope and Murderer's Creek areas.

Fire officials said they plan to burn 1,000 acres in the Antelope area, six miles southeast of Seneca. They also plan to burn 900 acres in the Murderer's Creek area, 15 miles northwest of Seneca.

The prescribed burning may continue, weather permitting, through Nov. 15.

Visitors can expect temporary road closures during burn operations to provide for firefighter and public safety. Smoke and reduced visibility can be expected. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use headlights in the areas.

Maps will be posted and available at the Malheur National Forest Supervisor's Office in John Day, and are also available online.
