PRAIRIE CITY - When Debbie Emmel of Prairie City realized something in her life was missing, she decided to take a bold step back and look at the big picture. She came to a resolution and decided to take a risk and open her own salon. She went to beauty school for 17 months to get her license.
The grand opening of the salon was May 2, 2006, and is known as "Front and Center Salon and Spa." The store is located at 226 Front St. in Prairie City.
Her services include facials, upper body massage and all hair care. She carries a wide variety of hair care and hygiene products, including body washes, spray starches, hair sprays, shampoo and conditioner.
Emmel said her husband encouraged her to open her salon. This was a business she couldn't do at home.
"I offer pedicures and facials and I didn't have enough room (at home) to do all of that. I wanted to do something for myself and my family," Emmel said.
Emmel enjoys being her own boss.
"It is different having to count on myself to bring in inventory and things like that," she said.
