JOHN DAY - A driver was checked for chest pains after a two-car collision Wednesday afternoon on Highway 395, in front of Grant Union High School.

Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said the crash occurred after a 2000 Audi driven by a student approached the south parking lot exit, began to pull out onto the highway and stalled. The driver restarted the engine and began to move, when a 1998 Toyota collided with the Audi.

The driver of the Toyota, Joan Ingalls, 72, of John Day, was checked by a Blue Mountain Hospital ambulance crew for chest pains, which were attributed to her seat belt.

The 17-year-old boy driving the Audi was uninjured.

No drivers were cited in the mishap. Police said speed and failure to yield right of way were factors.

John Day Police Chief Rich Tirico assisted in the investigation.
