SALEM - Cammie Haney and Jamie Cernazanu attended the Oregon State Fair Talent Show competition in Salem on Aug. 24.

Haney and Cernazanu proudly represented Grant County, but they did not place in the top 10. There reportedly were 25-plus acts in each competition, adult and youth.

At the Grant County Fair, Haney was chosen first in the adult division. Cernazanu was second in the youth category, but attended the competition when the first-place winner, Hanna Ellison, was unable to attend.

Performers were required to use the same act that they had performed at the county-level competition. Cernazanu performed an a cappella song, "Angel" by Amanda Perez at the Grant County Fair Talent Show, but sang with background music in the state competition. Haney gave a repeat of "All You Wanted" by Michelle Branch.

"It certainly was a learning experience," said Jim Cernazanu, Jamie's father. He applauded the young women for their efforts and noted that some counties were not represented at all. The acts at the Oregon State Fair showed a wide variety of talent from Celtic dance to fiddle music, he said.

As a consolation, the Cernazanu family went out and enjoyed the outstanding Oregon State Fair, including some breath-taking rides.
