Charles Daniel "Dan" Rice died Feb. 24, 2006, at Ochoco Care Center in Prineville. He was 86.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at First Assembly of God Church, 835 S. Main Street, Prineville. Pastor Richard Hargreaves will officiate.
Mr. Rice was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Pollock, S.D. to Hiram Elbridge and Gertrude Johanna (Fredricks) Winterberg Rice. He attended grade school in Pollock, S.D. and high school in Granger, Wash.
He married Grace Cole on Jan. 16, 1943, in Fairbanks, Alaska. After school, he owned a dairy in Mobridge, S.D. In 1955, he moved to Brea, Calif., where he became a certified welder. In 1960, he moved to Tumalo and owned a dairy farm. He also owned The Western Motel and John Day Realty in John Day. He was a county appraiser for Grant County. He lived in Prineville since 1994.
He enjoyed teasing people, traveling, his grandchildren and reading the Bible.
Mr. Rice is survived by his daughter, Janice and her husband, James Powell, of Prineville; sister, Dorothy Spurlock, of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Richard Rice of Java, S.D.; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and two children.
