Charles Donald Shaffer, 74, died on Sept. 26 in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Shaffer was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Brea, Calif., to Donald and Gwen (Pendleton) Shaffer.

He graduated from Brea Olinda High School.

On Sept. 20, 1950, he married Marie Tremaine at Brea, Calif.

Mr. Shaffer served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1950-52. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War

He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1955, then worked in petroleum and oil field equipment sales. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife Marie Shaffer of Mt. Vernon; sons Scott, Jeff and Neil Shaffer of Mt. Vernon; mother Gwen Shaffer of Newport Beach, Calif.; brother Bud Shaffer of Newport Beach, Calif.; sisters Coral Shaffer of Newport Beach, Calif., and Mary Dulrey of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald, son Bill, and two daughters, Annette and Cheryl.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fremont, Calif. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice.

Driskill Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
