'2nd Saturday'JOHN DAY - The next "2nd Saturday Gathering" will be held at the Outpost Restaurant River Room from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11.

The guest speaker will be Judy Wade from Bend. Her topic will be Proverbs 3:5. Kathy Rogers will provide praise and worship music.

Vacation Bible SchoolMT. VERNON - Living Word Christian Center in Mt. Vernon will hold Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday, July 13-17.

The theme is "Wildwood Forest" and the program is for children in kindergarten through grade 5.

Gaithers in concertJOHN DAY - Bible Way Church presents Chester and Isolena Gaither in concert, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, and 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, July 19.

The public is invited and there is no charge. CDs will be available for purchase.

The award-winning Gaithers received the "International Duo of the Year" award by the Country Gospel Music Association in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2007, they were named "Duo of the Decade."

With their blend of Southern and country gospel music, the Gaithers have recorded six CDs, and have performed around the world and across the United States.

Nilsen in concertJohn Day and Prairie City United Methodist churches present pianist John Nilsen in solo concerts Saturday, July 25.

Performances will be at 3 p.m. at the John Day church and time to-be-announced in Prairie City.

His selections will include folk, jazz and classical woven compositions, along with traditional hymn arrangements.

Nilson, a Northwest native, began studying classical piano from his mother at age 6. He started playing guitar at age 14 and graduated from Southern Oregon College (now University) in 1979. He founded the Magic Wing recording label in 1987.

A free-will offering will be taken and CDs will be available for purchase.
