JOHN DAY - Bible Way Community Church has a new home.
The congregation of about 25, led by Pastor Jack Retherford, meets at 401 W. Main St. in John Day, the former location of Figaro's Pizza.
Services at the new location began Sunday, Jan. 22, although members are still remodeling the interior space to suit their needs.
Retherford said the church has a one-year lease from building owners Pete and Wendi Rawlins.
Bible Way moved from its 700 S. Canyon Blvd. location, where it had been since 1999, due to sale of that building.
"But, he added, "our faith and hope isn't in a building."
Retherford has pastored the church since 1998, when he became credentialed with Bible Way Association, headquartered in Missouri. From October 1998 to March 1999, services were held in the Alec Gay Hall on Dayton Street.
Bible Way's Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. with Sunday worship at 10:45 a.m. Retherford said the worship service includes "open communion" and that all are welcome.
"We're a community church, here for anybody who wants to come," he said.
A community sing-a-long - usually country-gospel music - is offered at 4:30 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of each month. Retherford said members of First Christian Church in John Day often join in the "Fourth Sunday Singing," and added that all others are welcome to bring their voices, instruments or listening ears. Refreshments are served afterward.
