JOHN DAY - In recognition of their efforts exceeding the requirements to operate the city's water and sewer systems, three city employees were presented with achievement awards by Public Works Director Terry Eccles at the July 12 meeting of the John Day City Council.

The three employees were Monte Legg, Dan Larman and Jennifer Julsrud.

"You people have what it took," Eccles said. "We welcome the new skills you've learned and congratulate you on passing the state tests."

The three employees scored "exceptional" on the majority of the tests, Eccles said.

"Jennifer came to work for us last December as a part-time person to train with Treatment Plant Operator Bill Morris," said City Manager Peggy Carey. "She just passed her Level II exam for treatment systems and she is working on her Level III. On July 1, she was promoted to a full-time position and I expect she will be taking over for Bill when he decides to retire."

"I have had the opportunity to begin a new career and I have had the chance to improve myself," Legg said. "I want to thank the city for giving me this opportunity."
