Clare Elizabeth Timmons, of John Day, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Country Spice Residential Care Facility. She was 88.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City, with Pastor Darrell Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie City Cemetery.

Mrs. Timmons was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Steel City, Neb. to Albert and Amy Pelser. She was married to Ralph E. Timmons June 4, 1936, in Fairbury, Neb. They worked various farms around Hoxie, Kan. for their first years. In May of 1941, they journeyed west to Prairie City, living and working on the Stanbro Ranch for nine years before moving into town, and spent the next 50 years developing the place they both loved.

Mrs. Timmons working at Blue Mountain Nursing Home for several years as a seamstress. She loved making things with her sewing machine, but her main focus was her flowers and gardening. She was active in the garden club, bird club, and was a long time member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorthea Bethel of Redding, Calif.; son, Derald Timmons of North Bend; son, Dwayne Timmons, of Prairie City; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Timmons; parents; one sister and one brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day OR 97845.
